Todd Fanter
Todd Fanter earned his Bachelor of Arts from Western Illinois University. While studying at
Western Illinois, Todd sharpened essential communications skills by majoring in English and also
graduated with a minor in Law Enforcement/Justice Administration. He furthered his education by
participating in extracurricular activities, such as the WIU Investigators Club, Honors Society and the
Lacrosse team. Following the completion of his undergraduate studies, he attended Northern Illinois
University College of Law. In addition to the legal studies, trial advocacy classes and moot court team
activities through Northern Illinois, Todd volunteered as a clerk with the DuPage County States
Attorney’s Office. The hours of unpaid work eventually resulted in securing full-time employment as an
assistant state’s attorney.
Todd remained at the DuPage County States Attorney’s Office for nearly a decade and took
great pride in the high volume and award-winning level of work he provided to that office. While
employed at this office he was able to participate in a wide variety of tasks in a number of different
prosecution assignments. After starting off in the traffic court division, he was promoted to assignments
in the misdemeanor and felony courtrooms. Todd was also assigned to the specialized juvenile unit that
allowed him to study the law as it applied to younger offenders. The assignment in the juvenile unit also
gave Todd his first real dealings with civil law by becoming involved with abuse and neglect cases.
Following his work in the juvenile division, Todd was promoted to the prestigious narcotics division.
After the DuPage County States Attorney’s Office, Todd accepted a position as supervising
attorney for the misdemeanor division at the Kendall County States Attorney’s Office in Yorkville. Upon
conclusion of his career as a prosecutor, Todd transitioned into private practice with a focus on family
law. He spent two years with the Naperville-based Barhaugh Law Firm, P.C., where he became familiar
with the courtroom practices of the surrounding counties and gained valuable experience in family law
procedures. Todd enjoys assisting clients in understanding the legal process and making informed
decisions to best help their families.
